PREVIEW CLIPS FROM THE SHOW

Meet Brian Whitted

The Maestro Behind the Music

A powerhouse of musical brilliance, Brian Whitted is a seasoned pianist, conductor, and music director whose career has spanned Broadway, international tours, and collaborations with some of the biggest names in entertainment. A Fayetteville native, Brian honed his craft through homeschooling, the North Carolina School of the Arts, and UNC-Greensboro, launching a career that would take him to some of the world's most prestigious stages.

Brian's journey began in New York City, where he became the Music Director of the George Faison Firehouse in Harlem. He led productions featuring icons like Stephanie Mills, Melba Moore, Tony Terry, Angie Stone, and Brian McKnight, guiding shows to successful tours. His expertise brought him to the helm of Phylicia Rashad's Paul Robesonand Zora, starring Lynn Whitfield, where he also contributed musical arrangements.

A sought-after collaborator, Brian has worked with Jennifer Holliday, Brenda Braxton, and Tituss Burgess, and when Leslie Odom Jr. and Norm Lewis needed a trusted musical director, Brian was their go-to. His work with Ashford & Simpson on the musical Invisible Life further cemented his reputation for excellence.

Perhaps one of his most remarkable achievements was serving as pianist, arranger, and background singer for the legendary Bette Midler for nearly a decade, including an unforgettable Carnegie Hall debut at the venue's 120th Anniversary Gala, hosted by James Taylor.

Brian made his Broadway debut with Chicago: The Musical, where he performed and conducted for 14 years. His Broadway credits also include Violet, Shuffle Along, and The Color Purple, and he has toured with Roberta Flack and BeBe Winans.

Most recently, Brian served as Music Director on the Super Freak Tour: The Rick James Musical, bringing his signature artistry to the funk legend's electrifying new stage production. He is the resident music director at Opera House Theatre Company (OHTC) and also guest music directs at Cape Fear Regional Theatre and Theatre Raleigh. Now based in Wilmington, NC, Brian continues to bring his exceptional talent and leadership to the stage, making every performance a masterclass in musical artistry.
